A simple mental flow for choosing the right SpektraLift™ mixing ratio. Start with one question—what is the goal of this service?—and follow the path to the correct formula.
Every SpektraLift™ formulation starts the same way—with a single question.
Not “What developer should I use?” Not “How much SpektraLift do I add?” Those answers come after. The first question is the only one that matters.
The One Question That Drives Everything
What is the primary goal of this service?
That’s it. The goal determines the ratio. The ratio determines the chemistry. The chemistry determines the result.
Everything below flows from that single starting point.
If the Goal Is Deposit
Ratio: 1:1:1 (Color : SpektraLift : Developer)
You’re refreshing color, matching natural depth, or running a deposit-focused service. Lift isn’t the priority—clean, true tone is.
This balanced ratio stabilizes the alkaline environment and lets dye intermediates fully form. No escalation needed. Developer at 10–20 vol.
If the Goal Is Gray Coverage
Ratio: 1:1:1 with 20 vol
Gray coverage is about penetration and completion. Resistant gray doesn’t need more force—it needs better conditions for pigment to form completely.
SpektraLift supports oxidative dye formation without relying on excessive alkalinity. The result is improved coverage and tone density, even on the most resistant gray.
If the Goal Is Lift + Deposit
Ratio: 1:1:2 (Color : SpektraLift : Developer)
This is the balanced lift scenario. You want to lift and tone in one step without sacrificing tonal integrity.
The increased developer ratio provides the oxidative energy for lift, while SpektraLift moderates the reaction so deposit can happen alongside melanin degradation instead of competing with it. Developer at 20–30 vol.
If the Goal Is Maximum Lift
Ratio: 1:1:2 + heat
When maximum lift potential is the priority—natural hair, resistant hair, high-lift shades—add controlled warmth to the equation.
Medium warm dryer for 35 minutes. The heat supports efficiency without rushing the reaction. Regulated oxidation allows lift to proceed without prematurely destroying tone. Developer at 30–40 vol.
If the Goal Is Lift Through Previous Color
Ratio: 1:1:2 + heat + full time
This is the scenario that traditionally required double processing. Previously colored hair needs gradual destabilization and reorganization—not aggressive chromophore destruction.
Medium warm dryer, full 35-minute processing time. Don’t rinse early because you see lift. Lift can appear before pigment formation is complete. Let the chemistry finish. Developer at 30–40 vol.
“Seeing lift doesn’t mean chemistry has finished.”
If the Issue Is Porosity
Ratio: Choose based on the lift goal
Varied porosity isn’t a separate formula—it’s a condition that SpektraLift helps manage within whatever ratio you’ve already selected.
The technology helps synchronize oxidation timing, reducing the tendency for porous areas to over-process while resistant areas lag behind. Choose your ratio based on whether you need deposit (1:1:1) or lift (1:1:2), and let SpektraLift handle the timing problem.
If Using Lightener
Ratio: Follow lightener rules + SpektraLift as support
This is advanced territory. Follow manufacturer lightener instructions, add SpektraLift at equal part to lightener, and use developer per lightener guidelines.
SpektraLift supports a more controlled alkaline environment during oxidative lightening. Monitor visually. This application is for experienced professionals who understand the chemistry they’re working with.
The Pattern
Notice the simplicity:
- Deposit goals → 1:1:1
- Lift goals → 1:1:2
- More challenge → add heat, add time
The ratio isn’t complicated. The discipline is knowing which goal you’re solving for before you mix.
