Best Practices: Mixing Ratios for Every Color Goal

Professional mixing ratio guide for SpektraLift™ with Regulated Oxidation Technology®. Covers deposit, gray coverage, lift + deposit, previously colored hair, varied porosity, and lightener use.

SpektraLift™ was designed to support professional judgment, not replace it.

The following mixing ratios reflect best practices based on field testing, chemistry behavior, and the principles of Regulated Oxidation Technology®. These guidelines are not rules—they’re intelligent starting points designed to create consistent, predictable working conditions.

Start with the goal, not the formula.

Deposit / Standard Color

Goal: Clean tone, no lift priority

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 2 part Developer (10–20 vol)

Why it works: Stabilizes the alkaline environment and allows dye intermediates to fully form without rushing oxidation. When lift isn’t the priority, this balanced ratio lets pigment chemistry complete its work efficiently—resulting in cleaner, more saturated tone.

Deposit + Gray Coverage

Goal: Maximum coverage, tone density

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 2 part Developer (20 vol)

Why it works: Improves penetration and completion of pigment formation without relying on excessive alkalinity. Resistant gray hair often resists because the cuticle doesn’t open efficiently—not because there isn’t enough force. Regulated oxidation addresses the timing problem, not the power problem.

Lift + Deposit (Balanced)

Goal: One-step lift with tonal control

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 4 parts Developer (20–30 vol)

Why it works: Balances lift and deposit by reducing competition between reactions. In traditional formulations, melanin degradation and dye polymerization fight for the same oxidative energy. This ratio allows both processes to coexist by moderating oxidation timing.

Lift + Deposit (Maximum Lift – Virgin Hair)

Goal: Maximize lift potential

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 4 parts Developer (30–40 vol)

Process: Medium warm dryer | 35 minutes

Why it works: Regulated oxidation allows lift to proceed efficiently without prematurely destroying tone. The increased developer volume provides the oxidative energy needed for significant lift, while SpektraLift moderates the reaction sequence so deposit can still occur alongside melanin degradation.

Lift + Deposit Through Previously Colored Hair

Goal: Lift and re-tone without double processing

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 4 parts Developer (30–40 vol)

Process: Medium warm dryer | Full time

Why it works: Minimizes non-effective pigment loss and allows more chemistry to finish forming color. Previously colored hair presents a unique challenge—existing artificial pigment must be destabilized while new pigment is deposited. Regulated oxidation supports gradual reorganization rather than aggressive chromophore destruction.

Varied Porosity

Goal: Even results across resistant and porous areas

Ratio:

  • 1 part Color
  • 1 part SpektraLift
  • 2 parts Developer (adjust for lift)

Why it works: Synchronizes oxidation timing to reduce over- and under-processing. When porosity varies along the hair shaft, traditional formulations process at different rates in different zones. SpektraLift helps normalize the oxidation environment so chemistry behaves more predictably across the entire strand.

Use with Lightener (Advanced)

Goal: Controlled lightening, improved hair feel

Ratio:

  • Follow lightener instructions
  • Add SpektraLift equal part to lightener
  • Developer per lightener guidelines

Why it works: Supports a more controlled alkaline environment during oxidative lightening. This is an advanced application—professional judgment regarding timing, monitoring, and hair assessment remains critical.

The Principle Behind Every Ratio

SpektraLift™ is not about breaking rules. It’s about creating better conditions for chemistry to behave predictably.

Consistency comes from:

  • Understanding the goal — Know what you’re trying to achieve before choosing a ratio
  • Choosing the correct ratio — Match the ratio to the service, not the other way around
  • Allowing the process to complete — Regulated oxidation rewards patience

SpektraLift™ supports professional judgment and does not guarantee outcomes. Results vary based on hair history, formulation, and application.
